James Lovelock, 1919-2022, an English independent scientist, environmentalist and futurist, best know for his Gia hypothesis, which postulates the Earth functions as a self-regulating system.
When NASA first posed the question, how do we detect the presence of life on another planet, it was James Lovelock they went to for answers. Simply sniffing the air was his unexpected response. No need to scour the surface for Martians or their cities, just sit in one place and examine the atmosphere for the chemical products of life on a planet. Brilliant.
And this only scratches the surface of his incredible life, career and contribution to our human place on this planet Earth.
Our thanks for this exceptional life.
